Bluffton crushes Lawrence and Mount Mary

MILWAUKEE, Wis. - The Bluffton University volleyball team hammered both Lawrence and Mount Mary in straight sets, bringing its winning streak to eight straight matches! The Beavers improved to 8-1 following a pair of sweeps on Saturday, Sept. 7. It marks the most consecutive wins since the start of the 2020-21 season when Bluffton opened the season with nine straight victories.

Lawrence fell to 3-5 after Bluffton won 25-12, 25-19 and 25-23. Senior Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) pounded nine kills against just one error for a sparkling .400 hitting percentage in the opener. Junior Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) and sophomore Kasey Sager (Troy) followed with seven and five kills, respectively. Woods added five blocks for the victors.

Sophomore Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) handed out 27 assists and Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) led the back line with 14 digs. Williams and Lawhorn both served up a pair of aces.

Sophomore Kallie Durbin (Toledo/Toledo Christian) blistered Mount Mary with nine kills and no errors on just 11 swings for an unbelievable .818 hitting percentage! Junior Bekah Pack (Lexington) went 6-0-10 for a .600 hitting percentage and Barnett hit .545 with seven putaways.

Ella Taylor (Urbana) and Mallory Fluharty (Wooster/Triway) set up a host of Beavers with 14 and 13 assists, respectively. Williams chipped in with 11 helpers. Lawhorn and fellow sophomore Chloe Griffin (Springfield/Global Impact Stem Academy) picked up six digs apiece. Senior Kennedy Parker (Lima/Central Catholic) rifled three aces against host Mount Mary.

Bluffton is back in action next Friday, Sept. 13, for the Sommer Center Spiketacular. The Beavers will tee it up with Wilmington (3 PM) and Hilbert (7 PM) on day one.
