Beavers take down Kalamazoo in five sets

KALAMAZOO, Mich. - The Bluffton University volleyball team made the long trip to Kalamazoo College on a cold Thursday, Oct. 17, and a victory was on the menu as the Beavers needed all five sets to fill their bellies. Bluffton improved to 16-7 with its third straight win.

Bluffton won sets two and three as the two squads split the first four before a convincing 15-7 Beaver victory in the clincher thanks to a whopping 11 kills and a sparkling .476 hitting percentage.

Senior Chloei Barnett (Wapakoneta) and junior Jenna Woods (DeGraff/Riverside) lit up the Hornets with 16 and 15 kills, respectively. Sophomores Kasey Sager (Troy) and Chloe Sample (Springfield/Catholic Central) followed with 10 and nine spikes for the visitors. Sager also got it done with five blocks.

Gabby Williams (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) stuffed the stat sheet with 51 assists, 16 digs, four kills, two aces and two blocks! Abby Lawhorn (Cable/Mechanicsburg) paced the defense with 25 digs. Senior Kaylei Barnett (Wapakoneta) finished with a career-high 18 pickups. Freshmen Saniyah Terry (Macomb, MI/L Anse Creuse HS North) and Ashlie Nuss (St. Marys/Memorial) chipped in with 16 and 13 digs, respectively.

The Beavers will back on the Sommer Center on Satuday, Oct. 19, when they host Anderson University in a Heartland Conference showdown at 1 p.m.
