Bluffton harriers kick off 2001 at Defiance

Senior Mandy Borgelt lead the team with a 15th place finish (21:22) while teammate, senior Ben Noll was close behind in 17th (21:30) for the 5k course. Next for the Beavers were Maryanna Morgan (Fr.) in 19th place (21:36), then Jennifer Niedermier (Fr.) in 20th (21:36), and rounding out the scoring was Kristen Stager (Jr.) in 28th place (22:09). Also running for the Beavers were: Katie Gwirtz (37th, 22:53), Alyssa Inniger (42nd, 23:24), Rachel Noirot (46th, 24:06), Rachael Szydlowski (51st, 25:30), Lindsey Channels (53rd, 26:11), and Kristie Wiltsie (58th, 28:57).

"We had a nice pack today, our 1-5 split was only :47 seconds. Once we start getting into speed work, these women are really going to come around. This is a great start to the year!," Head Coach Derek Stanley said of the women's team.

MEN'S RESULTS

The men's team posted a fair performance as they competed in the same invitational. The men ended up 6th place overall and solidified a future to build on. Bluffton was lead by Junior Steve Borga who finished in 25th place with a time of 29:21 for the 8k course. Following Borga close behind was freshman Mitch Stacy (27th, 29:27), freshman Andy Schiefer (30th, 30:08), freshman Roy Kaplan (32nd, 30:13), and rounding out the scoring was freshman Christopher White (34th, 31:32). Also running for the men were Jeremy Olson (36th, 32:12), Jeremy Gaub (42nd, 36:23), and Stephen Rabe (43rd, 36:49)

"This is a stepping stone. Now these guys have some kind of frame of reference that they can shoot for next week. Endurance speed work is going to be the key to opening up this team," Coach Stanley said of the men's team.
