Women place sixth at HCAC meet

The Bluffton men's and women's cross country traveled to Franklin, Indiana, for the Heartland Conference Cross Country Championships on October 28, 2006. The women's team finished the meet sixth of nine, while the men ended up seventh in the conference.

Junior SARAH HUMPHREY (Upper Sandusky/Upper Sandusky) continued to lead the Beavers as she ended the 5K race in 18th place, crossing the line in 25:33. Junior BREE FETTERMAN(North Royalton/Padua), along with frosh SARAH BINKLEY (Bluffton/Cory-Rawson) and BROOKE HABRUM (Magnolia/Sand Valley), ran as a pack, finishing 41st (28:50), 42nd (29:05) and 44th (29:18) respectively. Senior LAUREN BAILEY (Upper Arlington/Upper Arlington) and freshman JENNIFER THOELE (Laura/Milton Union) rounded out the top five as they finished 49th (30:03) and 52nd (30:22).

Junior HILLARY SHILOSIO (Eldoret, Kenya) led the men's team as he finished 33rd with a time of 29:58. Shilosio was followed closely by senior DAVE ESPINOZA (Toledo/Whitmer) who crossed the line in 30:41. JOEL KOERNER (Kalona, Iowa/Iowa Mennonite) edged fellow senior PAT COOLEY (Ludlow Falls/Milton Union) by only two seconds as they ended up 40th (31:04) and 41st (31:06). Junior PETE HUSTED (Carrollton/Carrollton) finished 43rd with a time of 31:57 to round out Bluffton's top five.

The Anderson University Ravens continued their stranglehold in cross country by posting dominating victories in both the men's and women's races. The men finished with 18 points while the women were just slighly off that pace, finishing with 23 points.

The Beavers return to action on Nov. 11 when they travel to Hanover, Indiana for the NCAA Regional Meet.
